Raw Rice Storage: Airtight Beats "In the Bag"
Rice left in its paper or thin plastic bag is exposed to humidity swings and pantry pests like weevils, which can lay eggs in the grain before it's even packaged. An airtight container keeps moisture out (preventing clumping and off flavors) and makes it much harder for any pests to get in or multiply. White rice keeps well this way for a year or more; brown rice, with its intact bran layer full of oils, goes rancid faster and is better stored in the fridge or freezer for long-term keeping.
